When the rains came, thats when the pain came...
As what appear to be that last gasps of Tropical Storm Ernesto peter out with little hurt or harm to show for it, I am reminded of everything i have to be grateful for. It's been just over a year since Katrina passed through South Florida as a Category 1 hurricane, and crippled this area to a far greater degree than any one thought a "minor" storm could. I, myself, was without the full benefit of lights or television for nearly two weeks, but i kept my roof and my windows and my life.
In the days following her departure from the panhandle, this tempermental naif would develop quickly in the warm waters of the Gulf. She blew out of the bayou as the single greatest femme fatale in American history. I would urge anyone who hasnt already done so to check out Spike Lee's "When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts. It's a powerful lesson in just how expensive apathy and incompetence can be. I would also urge anyone who hasnt already done so to consider today what an embarassment of riches it is to have health, and home and the nearness of loved ones.
